State, providers to meet in Bozeman to talk Medicaid

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle - 6/1/2018

The nation’s Medicaid program covers 1 in 5 Americans living on low-incomes. Montana’s Medicaid Expansion, which unrolled in 2016, brought health coverage within reach of more than 94,000 Montanans.

“So it’s a big topic,” said Deborah McAtee, chair of the Gallatin Mental Health Local Advisory Council.

But she said to many, understanding how it works and its future is hard to keep up with.

“Medicaid comes up anytime you’re talking to mental health providers in particular,” McAtee said. “What’s going on with Medicaid matters in this state. To the hospital, mental health centers, it matters a lot.”

On Monday, the council will bring together Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services officials and providers to break down what the program looks like in Montana.

The talk, scheduled for 2 p.m., at the Bozeman Public Library, includes Zoe Bernard with the state’s Addictive and Mental Disorders Division and Paul Meyer, CEO of Western Montana Mental Health.
