RWKC gives donations to San Antonio wounded warriors

Kerrville Daily Times (TX) - 7/23/2016

July 23--Members of the Caring for America Committee of the Republican Women of Kerr County traveled to San Antonio to deliver donations to wounded warriors at the Lackland Fisher House at the Brooke Army Medical Center.

Committee chairwoman Peggy Schmidt said the group visited with people in the center and dropped off supplies ranging from food to toiletries and dish soap.

"The Republican Women have been doing this for years," Schmidt said. "We bring whatever items we can that they ask for."

Schmidt said this was her second year to visit the Fisher House. The facility acts as home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill or injured patients receiving treatment at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. Schmidt said she enjoys visiting with the patients and their families when she goes to the house.

"It's heartwarming," Schmidt said. "You can see some of the guys and gals are there in their therapy as you're touring the facility. It just makes you feel so good to be a part of giving to these people who gave so much for us."
