Veterans and their families as well as active military members will be honored at the 2018 summer pops concert hosted by the Orchestra of Northern New York, the region's only year-round, professional symphony orchestra.

Two performances will take place on July 2 at 7 p.m. in Hosmer Hall, SUNY Potsdam, and July 3 at 8 p.m. in Watertown'sThompson Park. The concert in the park is free, sponsored by the Watertown Rotary Club, and followed by fireworks.

The program s opens with O Canada and the Star Spangled Banner. The first half is a musical salute to veterans and the Fourth of July, including the Battle Hymn of the Republic and the Armed Forces Salute, among other songs. Members of Massena Amvets Post 4 will present the color guard.

The second half of the program offers music from the silver screen and such blockbuster movies as Dances with Wolves, Gone with the Wind and Jurassic Park.

Maestro Kenneth Andrews will conduct the 65-piece orchestra as it presents its final concert of the 30th season.

Tickets for the Potsdam concert are $23 for adults, $19 for seniors/military, $10 for college students with ID, and free for children, 17 and younger. For more information, call the CPS box office at 315-267-2277 or visit www.onny.org.

The nonprofit orchestra is sponsored, in part, SUNY Potsdam, the Crane School of Music, the Northern New York Community Foundation, and the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature.
