BRIEF: Business raises $7,945 for veterans

Pocono Record - 8/18/2018

Aug. 18--SNYDERSVILLE -- Pocono Mountain Harley Davidson off Route 33 presented a $7,945 check Friday to VALOR, a nonprofit organization helping homeless U.S. military veterans.

Pocono Mountain Harley Davidson raised the money from participant registration fees for its recent annual benefit motorcycle ride to and around the Pocono Raceway race track in Long Pond. The ride benefits a different cause each year.

This year's cause was VALOR, which operates Paul's House in Jonas.

Converted from the former Hotel Jonas and named after an Illinois-born soldier killed in action, Paul's House provides transitional housing for homeless veterans seeking employment, assistance with military service records and, in some cases, help with mental health issues.

Pocono Mountain Harley Davidson Sales Manager Ty Shoemaker provided the escort for this year's benefit ride. Mission Barbecue of Lehigh County, which does cookouts for events benefiting struggling veterans, helped provide food for participants after the ride.
