Time Lapse: Birthday salute to RI State Police

The Rhode Island State Police just turned 96 years old. The first group of troopers was formed in April 1925 under the guidance of Col. Everitte St. John Chaffee. He was an Army officer and war veteran, and also a graduate of Harvard Law School. He made sure that the distinctive uniforms worn by the force were all of the highest quality. The riding breeches, still part of the current-day winter uniform, were for motorcycle or horse patrol.
